Market at Ag Heritage Park opens 2019 season May 2

Market at Ag Heritage Park strawberries

The Market at Ag Heritage Park’s 2019 season will open Thursday, May 2, and continue every Thursday through Aug. 29. Hours are 3-6 p.m.

The Market at Ag Heritage Park will kick off its 15th season on the Auburn University campus Thursday, May 2, from 3 to 6 p.m. and will continue every Thursday, same place and time, through Aug. 29.

Sponsored by Auburn’s College of Agriculture, the outdoor farmers market is located beside Ag Heritage Park’s Edward L. Lowder Red Barn at 580-B South Donahue Drive. The entrance is on South Donahue, near the intersection of South Donahue and West Samford Avenue.

Each week, the 2019 Market will feature area growers offering a wide variety of farm-fresh fruits and vegetables.

“Like we did last year, we’re kicking off The Market in early May to catch the end of strawberry season, so shoppers should note that they won’t find as many vendors those first few weeks as they will later in the growing season,” Market manager David Lawrence said. “The warm weather we’ve had lately should have growers off to a good start this year, so look for the volume to pick up around the first of June.”

In addition to fresh produce, shoppers will find other local goods — honey, homemade jellies and relishes, hanging baskets, soaps and more — at The Market each week. The Market will be open rain or shine, unless severe weather threatens the safety of customers, vendors and workers.

“We’re looking forward to another year of providing a venue where the campus community and area residents can buy the freshest fruits and vegetables directly from the folks who grew them,” Lawrence said.

The Market at Ag Heritage Park is free and open to the public.
