Research Activities

Since 2012 I have been a partner in research with the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. The project,”Harvest for Health”, is a garden intervention study for cancer survivors. Financial support has come from the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and private donations. We recruit and train volunteers to mentor cancer survivors through 12 months of hands-on learning in a backyard vegetable garden. The majority of our volunteers are Extension Master Gardeners.

Extension Activities

I have statewide responsibility as the Home Grounds team Co-leader in the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. I am also the State Program Coordinator for the Alabama Master Gardener Program, a 34-county network of volunteer Extension educators.
