Kim Mullenix, assistant professor and extension specialist in Auburn’s Department of Animal Sciences, was recognized as the Alabama Beef Cattle Improvement Association’s 2016 Outstanding Extension Educator during the organization’s 2017 annual meeting in Jemison.

Mullenix was cited for her exceptional contributions toward improving the efficiency of Alabama cow-calf, stocker and backgrounding operations through forage management and supplementation. As a leading member of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s animal science and forage team, she provides instruction in beef cattle nutrition and led in the development of the Better Beef Basics online training program that helps new cattle producers learn optimal cattle management practices.

In addition to her work as an extension educator, Mullenix has a strong research program focused on optimizing beef production systems through forage utilization, co-product supplementation and soil-plant-animal interactions.

The Alabama Beef Cattle Improvement Association is a nonprofit organization that was formed in 1964 to promote, educate and facilitate the use of performance data, record keeping and marketing opportunities that enhance the state’s cattle industry
